Last week our 5th grade students completed the 10 week DARE program and held their graduation on Friday December 6, 2013.   Students successfully completed the requirements of D.A.R.E. and in order to receive their graduation certificates, students participated in class discussions and activities, learned songs, and wrote thoughtful essays on why it is important to stay away from drugs and other harmful substances. The vision of D.A.R.E. is to create, “A world in which students everywhere are empowered to respect others and choose to lead lives free from violence, substance abuse, and other dangerous behaviors.”  The D.A.R.E. program teaches students good decision-making skills to help them lead safe and responsible lives.  Additionally, it establishes positive relationships between students and law enforcement, teachers, parents, and other community leaders. The students favored the audience with 3 awesome songs and several students from each of the 2 classes were chosen to read their essay.   The 4 students who were chosen to read their essays were:

Mrs. Mantilla's Class - Kayden Cruz and Mandy Watson

Mr. Teuscher's Class - Isaac Wahinehookae and Ashley Hansen.

Also Jorge Ventura from Mr. Teuschers class and Claire Hulet from Mrs. Mantillas class won the "Daren" mascot lions! For participating in  the D.A.R.E program our awesome 5th grade students also received a T-shirt that they can wear with Larsen pride! Our DARE officer, Officer DeWitt always makes D.A.R.E fun and we want to give a big Thank You to Officer DeWitt and all of parents for supporting our 5th grade students in this worthwhile program. WAY TO GO LEOPARDS!!
