January Chess Tournament

for Nebo School District

Saturday, January 23rd  at

 Art City Elementary

Grades K-6

5 Round Swiss Tournament

 When:

Saturday January 23rd, 2016

Check in 8:00-8:30 am, instructions at 8:45 am, round 1 begins at 9:00 am, rounds 2-5 follow as each grade finishes.  Rounds are up to 50 minutes each (i.e. approximately 25 minutes per player).  All students play all five rounds.  Trophies will be awarded as each grade finishes, usually by 2:00 pm.  Tie breaks will be decided by the computer.

 

 Who:

Open to all K-6 students residing within Nebo school district boundaries, whether attending public, charter, or home school.  Is this your first tournament?   Come and join the fun! 

Awards:

Trophies will be awarded to the top 10 players in each grade, 1-6.  (Kindergartners will be combined with first graders.)   Other contestants will receive a participation medal.  School trophies will be awarded for the top 5 schools as well.

 Registration:

$8 if you register and pay by Jan 9, $15 up until Jan 21.  Registration accepted only through Thursday, Jan 21.  Registration will be limited to 175 students, so register early!  Register and pay online at www.utahchessk12.com/artcity.  If you have trouble registering, email Bret Elzinga (elzingab [at] gmail.com (elzingab[at]gmail[dot]com)) with your student’s name, school, grade, and any requested byes.  If you have trouble paying online, contact Mary Lynn Lewis (marylynn.lewis [at] nebo.edu (marylynn[dot]lewis[at]nebo[dot]edu)).  No registration/payment accepted at the door!

 Where:

Art City Elementary – 121 North 900 East, Springville, UT

From I-15, take the 400 South exit in Springville (Exit 260).  Go east 2.1 miles.  Turn left onto Main St.  Go north 0.4 miles.  Turn right onto Center St.  Go east 0.9 miles.  Turn left onto 900 East.  The school is on your left. 

Supervision:

Supervision of children is the responsibility of the parents.  Parents and other spectators may not interact with players while they are competing.   

Food:

Pizza, drinks, and snacks will be available for purchase.   

Information will be available for those interested in starting a chess club at their school.
