Welcome Back

Parents and Students,

     We are so excited to begin another great year of school here at Larsen Elementary.  We are almost finished with this new registration process.  I really wanted to thank you for your efforts and especially your patience.  As with new things, it takes some getting used, so thanks again!      I want to make you aware of important dates and also some great opportunities that you and your children can look forward to this year. 

     Open House will take place on Monday, August 21, from 3:30-5:30pm.  Students will be able to come to the school and meet their teachers.  The PTA will be set up in the front foyer with opportunities for parents to sign up and help out our school and classrooms in a variety of different ways.  Make sure to sign up for as many activities as your schedule allows.  They will also be selling school shirts.  We have chosen to keep the same school shirt as last year.  This year school hoodies will also be available for purchase. 

          We would like to thank the PTA for their great support.  This year they are going to hold quarterly family activities at little to no cost.  Families will be able to participate in game night, skate nights, and possibly a carnival paid for by the PTA.  They are also providing a monthly parent date night where parents will have the opportunity to receive some training about the Leader in Me program.  At Larsen we are working hard to help students realize and reach their full potential.  Part of the way that we are doing this is through Steven Covey's Seven Habits.  While we are not an official Leader in Me school at this time, we have chosen to continue trying to incorporate the language and principles that it teaches.  The PTA was trained and is on board to help get parents up to speed so that we can all become familiar with the language.  Look for fliers to inform you about the trainings, and hopefully this will be something that will be a benefit to you and your family.      The First Day of School is August 22 for a First-Sixth Grades, with Kindergarteners beginning on August 29th.  School begins at 8:30am, and ends at 2:45pm.  Early Out days will still be held on Monday's.  School ends at 2:00pm on these days so that teachers can hold their collaboration meetings.  Afternoon kindergarten has a different start time on Mondays, so check the school website for a reminder of school start and end times.  Make note that the school doors will remain locked until 8:00am during the school year.  Students will be able to get breakfast at that time.  Morning supervision begins at 8:05am, so just make note so that we can work together to keep all kids safe.      For your information, our school website is updated regularly.  To get the most recent and up to date information, access links, and check out all of the awesome things happening at school, check out the link:  www.larsen.nebo.edu   This is also the location where you will sign up for parent teacher conferences, find information about our after school programs, and access the Leopard Link.  The Leopard Link is a monthly newsletter that I send out to keep you up to date on the things that have happened that month and important dates that will be coming in the month ahead.   I am so grateful to be part of such a great community that cares about kids. We love having your children at Larsen, and we have a great staff that does their best to meet our students needs!  Thanks for all of the great support! :)
