4th Grade Pioneer Day

Larsen 4th graders had fun celebrating Pioneer Day with dressing up in pioneer clothes, dancing, games, art and tasty food.  The students made covered wagon art, learned pioneer weaving, played pioneer games, ate cornbread and honey butter.  They ended the celebration with dancing the Virginia Reel and Texas Star for parents and visitors.  We were also glad the Mrs. Johnson came back to help them learn the dancing!  Way to go 4th graders!

Paula Carter, a 2nd grade teacher here at Larsen,  received a grant from the Nebo Foundation to purchase some non-fiction books for her classroom library.  Here is what she said about receiving this grant:

Larsen Elementary–Paula Carter
“I am so excited to be able to add more non-fiction books to our classroom library!  Our class just finished writing chapter books about animals.  They were so excited about what they found out in their research about animals and are eager to take on another task using non-fiction books.  My students are ready to expand their writing experiences with science non-fiction books.  I greatly appreciate the generous donation that the Nebo Foundation has given to enrich my students and their learning.  Since my principal, Garrett Andersen matched the Nebo Foundation donation, my class library will receive twice as many books.  I feel that this donation is the key to opening up many imaginations and creative writers! Thank you so much!!!”

Mrs. Bates received a grant from the Nebo Foundation to purchase a new series of books for her classroom.  Here is what Mrs. Bates had to say:

Larsen Elementary–Patti Bates
“I received a grant through the Nebo Foundation and have purchased a high quality, early literature series to get students excited about reading.  This series of book builders has been highly recommended.  It will allow developing readers to connect with and study the characters Bella and Rosie during the many levels first graders are expect to transition through.  I plan to use the class pack during guided reading to reinforce higher level thinking skills for readers. The Bella and Rosie Collection will be available in my classroom library for individual readers to read and write book reviews. The book reviews will encourage their classmates to read books from the series. A big thank you from Mrs. Bates' First Grade Class,” said Patti Bates, first-grade teacher at Larsen Elementary.

Paula Carter Receives the Crystal Apple Award

We want to congratulate Ms. Paula Carter on receiving the Crystal Apple Award for her exceptional work as a 2nd grade teacher here at Larsen Elementary.  Ms. Carter has taught school for 20 years and has taught at Larsen Elementary, Salem Elementary and Challenger. The grades that she has taught are Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th.  She is respected and loved by all of Larsen staff and by her students.  Her two fellow 2nd grade teachers say that she gets more done by 8:00 A.M. than they do in a day.  She is always thinking of ways to help others and make them feel appreciated.  Larsen Elementary is lucky to have Ms. Carter here at our school!  Thank you Ms. Carter for loving our students and helping them to be the best they can be.  You are simply AMAZING!
