Mrs. Head Receives PEAK Award

Lana Hiskey

Our own Mrs. Head received the PEAK Award last night.  This award stands for Positive Energy and Kind employees.  Mrs. Head is always so kind and friendly to everyone that comes to Larsen. She makes everyone feel loved and accepted.  We love you Mrs. Head and appreciate all you do for Larsen.   She was nominated by Principal Andersen.  Below is the nomination that was written about her.

Kim Head, Secretary, Larsen Elementary
Nominated by: Garrett Andersen
“Kim always goes out of her way to make parents and students feel accepted in the front office of Larsen Elementary. She always has a smile. The love she has for her job beams through everything she does. Kim has gone the extra mile in helping several families get the needed documents and approval to enroll in school because she knows the importance of getting kids here and supporting the parents. Kim has helped take on a massive shift in our school culture.  I know that we could not have made this shift without her help and understanding. I appreciate ALL that she does for Larsen.”

3rd Grade Chalk Art

Our 3rd graders were lucky to have Claudia Jex come into their classes and show them how to make some snowman chalk art.  Mrs. Jex is the Visual Art Specialist for the district.  Larsen Elementary was given some grant money from the Beverly Taylor Sorensen Arts Learning Program to purchase some special art materials for each classroom. Thanks Mrs. Jex for helping us learn more about art!

Larsen Elementary would like to thank Zions Bank for donating dictionaries for each 3rd grade student.  These dictionaries are so helpful to students in their writing and spelling.  Thank you Zions Bank for helping our students!

Mrs. Eckhardt's Kindergarten Class Special Sing-A-Long

Mrs. Eckhardt's afternoon kindergarten class got a special treat.  Mike and Marlene Lauritzen, whose granddaughter Sadie Reavis is in the class, came to sing Christmas carols and tell stories to the class.  The pair have made it a family tradition to go and sing Christmas songs with the class of each of their grandchildren when they are in kindergarten.

Santa, Buddy the Elf and Grinch Came to Sing with Larsen Students

Larsen Elementary students had a very fun Christmas Sing-A-Long with some special visitors.  We had Santa, some of the reindeer, Buddy the Elf, and The Grinch come and spread some holiday cheer.  Mr. Andersen even got to sit on Santa's lap.  It was a holly jolly time! Merry Christmas from everyone here at Larsen!

Larsen 3rd Graders Build Some "Sweet" Gingerbread Houses

Larsen 3rd graders had a great time creating some really "sweet" gingerbread houses.  There was so much candy to choose from that each house was different.  The students were so creative and had so much fun!  Thanks to the 3rd grade teachers and all the parent voulunteers for helping the kids decorate the gingerbread houses!  Merry Christmas!!

November Reading Reward- Pie in the Face

The students at Larsen earned another fun reading reward activity for the month of November.  Our fearless leader, Mr. Andersen, was the lucky person to get pies thrown at him while wearing silly costumes that the students picked out.  One student from each class was able to throw a pie at the principal.  It was really fun and Mr. Andersen sure got a lot of whipped cream on him!  Keep up the good reading!! Thank you Mr. Andersen for being a good sport and thank you 1st grade teachers for putting it together!

Larsen 5th Graders Graduate from D.A.R.E

Our Larsen 5th Graders had their D.A.R.E graduation ceremony recently.  Officer Dewitt runs our D.A.R.E program.  He does such a great job helping the students understand the dangers of alcohol, tobacco and drugs.  Officer Dewitt shared with the students some stories of people who have had a problem with drugs and how they have hurt their bodies and their lives. He let the kids look through his police car, brought the K-9 dogs, wear googles that show them how it is to be impaired and many other activities.  Seven students got to read their essays during the graduation that they had written pledging to never take drugs. The winning essays were from Danielle Lehman, Hunter Talbot, Emily Marshall, Dallas Terry, Jesse Shepherd, Carson Heber, Sadie Werner. Thank you Officer Dewitt for all your time and effort and helping us to choose to be DRUG FREE!!
