The fifth-graders at Larsen Elementary got to meet a real author, Janene Wolsey Baadsgaard. They participated in her wonderful presentation where they learned about the writing process and even helped her start writing a new story! The fifth graders learned about what it takes to be a real author and discovered that they all have the potential to be great authors themselves. Way To Go Leopards!

Larsen Elementary announces its new student body council for the new 2011-2012 school year. This is an exceptional group of individuals! They have worked hard to shine in the classroom and have been outstanding examples of citizenship as well. They are an extremely friendly group who are anxious to help out, wherever they can. We are so excited to have these students on this year's student council! Way To Go Leapords!!

On Monday September 12, 2011 Larsen Elementary held their annual fall carnival. Students and their families enjoyed a wonderful Fall evening filled with silent auctions, yummy food, games, prizes, rides and one of the favorites, rock climbing! Some of the fun games and rides included the ever popular rock climbing tower, bouncy house, train rides and the giant shark slide! This year the carnival was held outside in the nice cool weather. It was a perfect night for a carnival!
Larsen PTA did a wonderful job putting together our fall carnival this year and we want to send them a huge THANK YOU! Larsen also wants to thank all of the parent helpers, teachers and staff for their help and volunteering their time and efforts to make our carnival such a huge success this year. We would also like to thank all of those businesses, organizations and families that contributed to our silent auction. Way to go leopards!!

Larsen Elementary helps “Spread the Word to End the Word.”
On Tuesday March 22nd Larsen Elementary students met for an assembly sponsored in part by Special Olympics and Best Buddies International called “Spread the Word to End the Word.”
Spread the Word is a movement created by youth all over the country that encourages kids to think about the words they use and how what they say affects those around them. Specifically, Spread the Word is about helping others to be aware of not using the R-word or the word ‘Retarded.’ Using this word is hurtful to those with intellectual disabilities and their families.
Two special guests were invited to come and share some insightful and heartwarming stories. Ms. Gwen Allen, one of Larsen’s 6th grade teachers brought her brother Neil, and Mrs. Natalee Hansen, a technician at Larsen, brought her niece McKenna.
Students were then invited to pledge or commit to stop using and help others stop using the R-word and encourage the use of a new R-word…. RESPECT.
We would also like to thank Mrs. Kim Head, Larsen's head librarian and her daughters Aubrey and Ashley for putting together such a great assembly! Thank you, it was awesome!
WAY TO GO LARSEN LEOPARDS!!!!
