1st thru 4th graders at Larsen had the opprotunity to learn how to make Oriental dragons out of construction paper in Mrs. Knopp's art class. The dragons have some intricate detail and even bend and move. The students did a great job on this project. Mrs. Knopp said that it took really good listening skills, following directions and patience by each student to have them turn out. Thank you Mrs. Knopp for all the fun activities you do in your class!
Larsen Elementary custodian Shelly Larsen received the Classified Employee of the Year Award for our school. Craig Harvey from Horrace-Mann Insurance came and presented it to her at a faculty meeting. Shelly is an outstanding employee and is always going the extra mile to help everyone here at Larsen. She always has a smile on her face and is a joy to be around. The faculty, as well as the students, love her and are so glad she is a part of Larsen Elementary. Our school is a better place because of her. Thanks for all you do Shelly!

On March 19, 2015 at Joann Fabric and Craft’s ribbon cutting ceremony, Larsen Elementary was awarded a $2000 donation as part of their Grand Opening. Larsen has had a great relationship with Joann’s in conjunction with our Afterschool 4-H program. The 4-H program offers many classes in arts, crafts and sewing which helped to create our lasting relationship with the Spanish Fork store. We are grateful for the donation that we have received and those funds will be used to increase the amount of technology in our classrooms for our students. It is great to have support from our community in their efforts to help provide for our students education.
Students from the Afterschool 4-H Underwater Robotics club recently competed in the 3rd Annual Under Water Robotics Competition at the Lehi Aquatics Center. Our club has been working since October on their robots, and did really well at the competition. Students in this club had to be recommended by their teacher, and had to commit to their team and a lot of work. We are so proud of not only how well they did at the competition, but also how they acted as they represented our school.
Leprechaun's found their way into Larsen Elementary this week. The 1st graders made some Leprechaun traps to catch the sneaky guys but they still got away. They also left a big mess in their classrooms but did leave a pot of gold hidden for the students to find. There were Leprechauns, rainbows, and gold pieces decorating our hallways all week from each class. Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!
Kindergarten reistration at Larsen Elementary will be tomorrow, March 17th, from 7:00-4:30 in the front office. We will need you to bring a birth certificate, immunization records and proof of residency. This early registration is important for us to know student numbers for next year. Please come and register and let any friends and neighbors who may not have students yet at Larsen know of the registation as well. Thanks for all you do and we will see you tomorrow.
Larsen Students were able to show their basketball skills off at a reading reward activity for the month of February. Two students from each class that had met their reading goal were randomly selected to shoot five baskets and earn $1.00 per shot. Some of our teachers and Mr. Andersen even showed their talents on the basketball court also. Larsen has some excellent basketball players at and made some really great baskets! Thank you 3rd grade teachers for all your work in putting this fun activity together.
Larsen 4th Graders were lucky to have Dan Guthrie from KSL come and teach them about the weather and all that goes into forecasting. The KSL Junior Weathers Specialist Program visits schools around the state teaching students about all the different kinds of weather that happen throughout Utah. It was interesting to learn how they can tell what the weather will be and how they deliver it to television, radio and internet. Thank you Dan Guthrie for helping us learn more about the weather!
Students in Mrs. Knopp's Art classes made some fantastic winter scenes that are on display. There was more snow falling in her classroom than out on the playground! The students created these masterpieces using watercolors, oil pastels, geometric shapes, shadowing and different light sources. Larsen has many budding artist as you can see!
