The sixth grade classes at our school have been coming to help the kindergarten students help write beginning, middle and end stories. The “writing buddies” worked together to create a book, and will get to have an “author party” to celebrate.
Some of our Larsen 4th and 5th graders participated in the Nebo School District Keyboarding Championship. They have developed remarkable keyboarding skills that we are sure will continue to grow. Congratulations to our own Calvin Barlow for taking 7th place in the 4th grade division!
Thank you to all the Larsen families that came and supported our Parents and Pastries this morning. It was a little different fashion from years past but the same smiles of kids reading with parents. A huge shout out to our PTA for their hard work putting it together. Keep up all the great reading!
Larsen 4th graders have been learning about the history of Utah pioneers and recently held Pioneer Day here at the school. They dressed up as pioneers, played pioneer games, made a candy covered wagon, sang pioneers songs and learned some square dancing. It was a fun day to go back in time and learn more about Utah history.
The kindergarten classes were so lucky to have Lisa Baxter come and teach them more about insects using her amazing microscope! We learned about butterfly wings and how the scales on their wings can sparkle. We also learned that mosquitos use their spit to numb your skin before they suck your blood!
Nebo is partnering with Tabitha’s Way for a new event called Read & Feed.
The purpose of this event is to encourage children to continue to read during the summer and to educate families facing food insecurity regarding food resources available to them and their children while they are not attending school. Our goal is to gather 10,000 gently used books that children can take home with them and keep to read during the summer.
Each year the Fiesta Days Rodeo sponsors a reading challenge for our students. Larsen Elementary students read a combined total of 145,222 minutes during the month of March. This year's winners were drawn from all those who participated.
