Extended School Dismissal Information

Dear Parent/Guardian:


Like you, we are just learning that Governor Gary R. Herbert, State Superintendent Syd Dickson, and the Utah State Board of Education “announced today that Utah’s K-12 public schools will extend their dismissal [soft closure] through Friday, May 1st.”  Their press release further stated that they will “continue to evaluate the situation to make a determination about the remaining school year” and that:


Gov. Herbert expressed his appreciation to the educators throughout our state who have quickly adapted their instruction to remote learning platforms. 


“These are unprecedented times in Utah’s and our nation’s history,” the governor said, “I have been overwhelmed with Utahns’ outpouring of support for one another, and nowhere has this been more evident than in the way our educators are supporting Utah students and families.”


Distance learning will continue during the extended dismissal for all K-12 public schools, where feasible…


“We recognize that being away from school creates additional work and stress for everyone in our communities; however, it is a necessary step in stopping the spread of COVID-19,” said State Superintendent Sydnee Dickson. “During the uncertainties of the coming weeks, it is more important than ever to remain socially connected with our students and families while doing our best to ensure learning continues. The flexibility and initiative of our educators is a shining example of how we rise together in challenging circumstances.”


Meal services at K-12 public schools will also continue on an as-needed basis.


Nebo School District teachers and staff remain committed to providing the learning structure and support that students and parents will require during these challenging times.  Our talented and dedicated professionals are so thankful to you students and parents for your tremendous efforts regarding at-home schooling.  Please remain in communication with your child’s teachers and contact the school with questions and concerns.

Nebo Free Child Nutrition Program Starting March 19, 2020

Dear Parents:

In this ever-changing environment, Nebo School District is working hard to meet the needs of the children in our communities. Nebo School District’s Child Nutrition Department has received a fee waiver from the State Board of Education through the USDA. Therefore:


Beginning Thursday, March 19, 2020, from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m., we have been authorized to offer Free Grab-n-Go breakfasts and lunches at the following locations for all children ages 0 - 18, Monday through Friday until further notice. Children from any school may pick up meals at these locations, but the children must be present to pick up meals and both meals may be picked up at the same time.

Shout Out to Larsen Elementary

We wanted to give a huge shout out to our Larsen teachers, staff, lunch ladies, custodial crew and Mrs. Thomas for doing amazing things these past 2 days.  Teachers have worked tirelessly to get packets and online lessons put together for their students.  Many staff members have also helped coordinate the pick up of all the supplies and helped hand them out.  Our lunch ladies have put together breakfasts and lunches so that kids can still have the meals they need.  Our custodial crews have been cleaning and disinfecting the whole school.  Last. but definitely not least, we want to thank Mrs. Thomas for the incredible leader she is to us all and remaining positive through this whole process.

Larsen students are the best of the best!  Larsen parents are incredible. We will miss seeing your faces everyday during this dismissal but we will look forward to when we will see you again.  Students keep reading everyday, practice your math facts, learn something new in science, write some really cool stories and stay healthy.  Hopefully we will see you soon!

Thank you for your patience and support as we navigate through this unprecedented time in education. We just want to keep you updated on what is happening in Nebo School District.

For the past couple of days and even through the weekend, Nebo teachers have been in training and preparing online materials and/or packets for their students for “at home” instruction.

Students, you should be hearing from your teacher(s) about learning “at home” instructions and directions in the next day or two on how to proceed in your particular class. If you have not heard from your teacher by the morning of Friday, March 20, 2020, please notify your school.

School campuses will remain open for the next two weeks.
• Students can retrieve personal items.
• Students can pick up assignments from their instructors.
• Some instructors may be available for brief one-on-one tutoring.
• Instructors will help answer student questions about their assignments.

The safety and education of our Nebo students is paramount in everything we do and in every decision we make. Thank you for your partnership in education.

Supplies/Chromebook Pick Up and Lunch Procedures

We will be ready to start with supplies and chromebook pick up tomorrow.  We would like to keep it as staggered as possible.  Listed below are the times for pick up:

10:00 AM-  Students with last names A-J
11:00 AM-  Students with last names K-P and also those coming for lunch pick up
12:00 PM-  Students with last names Q-Z

Just a reminder for lunch procedures that parents need to call daily by 9:00 AM to order and pick up between 11:00 AM-12:00 PM.

Breakfast and Lunch Menus for this Week

Here are the menus for this weeks breakfasts and lunches.  Students will come in the lunchroom and pick up trays, then exit the building.  Food will NOT be consumed in the lunchroom.

Breakfast: 8:00-9:00

Lunch: 11:00-12:00

        Breakfast: Cereal, Pop tart, Juice, Milk

        Lunch: Mini Pepperoni Pizza Calzones, Veggie cup, Fruit, Milk

        Breakfast: Maple Waffle or Cereal & Poptart, Fruit, Milk

        Lunch: Cheeseburger, Veggie cup, Fruit, Milk, Creamie

        Breakfast: Pancake on a stick or Cereal & Poptart, Juice, Milk

        Lunch: Cheese Pizza Rippers, Veggie cup, Fruit, Milk, Chocolate or Vanilla pudding

        Breakfast: Confetti Pancakes or Cereal & Pop Tart, Fruit, Milk

        Lunch: Ham and Cheese Deli Sandwich, Assorted chips, Veggie cup, Fruit, Milk

More Information and Frequently Asked Questions About School Dismissal

Dear Parents/Guardians:

This letter, dated March 15, is a follow up to the Nebo District letter dated March 13, and other letters that have been sent from your child’s school.  It is intended to provide clarification regarding some general questions that have been circulating.  Please help us to ensure that all parents, guardians, grandparents, or caregivers who provide student support are aware of this information.


As directed by the State of Utah, all public schools in Utah will dismiss beginning Monday, March 16, 2020, for two weeks in response to COVID-19. This is a proactive measure.


“Soft closure” or school “dismissal” means that Nebo employees will continue to provide learning for students through online instruction and/or educational packets to continue student learning. Further communication about devices and materials will come from your school.

Educators in Nebo School District will be working on March 16-17 to prepare online materials and/or packets and we anticipate instruction will begin Wednesday, March 18.  Please watch for specific information from your child’s school and teacher(s).

Updated March 15 – Students can go to any school in the District to pick up meals beginning Monday, March 16.

In order to provide our Nebo students with “Grab and Go” meals, breakfast and lunch will be available for purchase at normal prices. Free/reduced meals are available for those who qualify.  Breakfast may be picked up between 8:00-9:00 a.m. and does not need to be pre-ordered.  Lunch may be picked up between 11:00-12:00 and should be pre-ordered each day using the phone number and order deadline provided by the individual school.

Other than for picking up “grab and go” meals, students can be at the school by invitation only.  If they need to come and pick up items from the classroom, desk, or locker, they should contact the school to make arrangements.  Any individual tutoring or small group instruction plans will be coordinated by the school. 




Parents always have the right to determine that their child should not come to the school, even if invited for specific services or instruction.  As always, students and others should refrain from coming to the school if they are sick or have been in direct contact with those who are sick with the virus.




At this time a limited number of buses may be seen driving in your communities.  These buses are on specific assignments and are not for the general student population.  Please don’t mistake the presence of buses as a signal that schools are in session.



There will be no extracurricular activities, practices, games, or performances during these two weeks (see for official statement).

  • The school proactive dismissal for two weeks is meant to support social distancing and self-isolation to reduce the reach and spread of this virus.
  • COVID-19 has rapidly changing dynamics and the school district administrative team is working with local health authorities to monitor the situation on a daily basis.

State Issues Clarification on K-12 Dismissal

SALT LAKE CITY (March 14, 2020) - At a news conference yesterday afternoon, Gov. Gary R.  Herbert mentioned that during public school’s two-week dismissal, parents who are unable to be home with children will have the option to bring them to school to be supervised by teachers. This is not the case.

School campuses will remain open for the next two weeks so students can retrieve personal items or pick up assignments from their instructors. Some instructors may be available for brief one-on-one tutoring or to help answer student questions about their assignments. It is important to note that schools will not provide childcare of any kind.

During this period, meal services to students will still be available. In many instances, this is a grab-and-go lunch or breakfast program. These options will vary by school, designed to meet the unique needs of the local school community.

Families should look to local districts and charters for information on specific services available during the two-week dismissal.

Parent Letter from Mrs. Thomas about School Dismissal

Dear Parents:

As you are aware all K-12 schools in Utah are dismissed for the next two weeks. During this time students will participate in at home learning. These days will be counted as school days, and students are expected to continue their learning and school work. Teachers will be sending out information to you no later than Tuesday with specifics for your child’s class.

Monday and Tuesday teachers will be preparing at home learning for students. This will include a combination of engaging learning activities, online learning and support, computer programs, and possible work packets. Information will be coming to you on Monday or Tuesday detailing how to access the on-line instruction and the process to drop off/pick up packets. Wednesday we will begin this new learning experience.

Breakfast and lunch will be available each day. However, you will need to call the school between 8-9 am to reserve a lunch for your child. You will need to come to the school between 11am-12 noon, to the lunchroom door, to pick up student meals. Food will not be consumed at school. It will be a grab-and-go type system. Breakfast will be served from 8-8:45 am in the same fashion. You do not need to call in to reserve a breakfast. Please note that students must get breakfast and lunch from the schools they attend.

Teachers will be at school each day during regular school hours. They will be sending lessons and checking on student progress regularly.

We will have a process to provide online and other support as needed. We realize that it may be a little tricky to navigate multiple children. We will do our best to provide multiple ways of learning so that everything is not on the computer. The specifics of how this will work will be emailed to you by Tuesday.

The logistics of this new experience is an adventure! Processes may change the next few days. Please be patient with us as we navigate this unique situation.
