Lana Hiskey

Taylor Kivett, fifth-grade student, at Larsen Elementary won the book review contest on Biblionasium and will receive a full set of books as well as video chat with the author.

“I’m so excited I won! I think it's really great because I'm getting more books to add to my collection!” exclaimed Taylor. “I think Biblionasium is great because you can find new books, enter contests, and start challenges. It's a great way to log what you have read. I love it!!”

Larsen Elementary’s Fifth-grade teacher, Teri Waite, said, “I have my students log into the website Biblionasium to log their independent reading. It's like a Goodreads for kids.  Taylor submitted a review for the series ‘Last Kids on Earth’ when she saw the contest on the website. She won a boxed set of the books, and they will be using her review on their website and on promotional literature. Taylor is an excellent student and deserves the recognition for her accomplishment. I am thrilled for her and hope other students are inspired!”

Nebo congratulates you both on this accomplishment. It is thrilling to see a teacher inspire students and students to be engaged in learning.

Halloween Information

Submitted by teresa.beebe on Tue, 10/20/2020 - 10:50

For those of you who are new to Larsen, we welcome you to our favorite month of the year. We love making our Halloween celebration like no other. And even though we have many more protocols because of COVID, we wanted to continue with our tradition because we know our students really look forward to it.

We will be celebrating Halloween on Thursday, October 29th. We aren’t able to have a parade or gather large groups of people together this year. Instead, we will put together a short video to share with Larsen families so that all can share in a piece of the fun. Thanks for all your efforts in continuing to keep students and families safe!

Mrs. Townsend Receives Grant from Nebo Education Foundation

Submitted by teresa.beebe on Mon, 10/19/2020 - 10:21

The Nebo Education Foundation is composed of 20 volunteer board members who live in cities serviced by Nebo School District.  Board members meet each month to review and award grant requests, consider fund-raising avenues and other items that advance the educational opportunities for Nebo School District students. Many of the donations received are for selected projects, yet a substantial amount is available for the greatest need.  Greatest need monies are considered for grants submitted by area schools.
“That’s what the foundation is all about – to give our students the best educational opportunities possible through classroom grants,” said Lana Hiskey, executive director.

Shaylyn Townsend, special education teacher at Larsen Elementary said, “We are thrilled to receive this grant for our special education classrooms. Our students are the most at-risk in the school and require extra assistance with their learning. Having this technology will allow us to use various learning apps to assist them in their learning. Technology is a great tool for learning and our student's require various methods of learning, as they all learn so differently. We are looking forward to using apps to help with writing letters and numbers, number recognition, using various apps that have built in assessments, and more! We are also grateful to be able to assist our students in learning how to use technology in the case that we end up in quarantine again.”
