Author Jason Wright Visits Larsen

Larsen Elementary had a visit from Jason Wright, author of "The Christmas Jars", and "Penny's Christmas Jar Miracle". He spoke with students about becoming an author, as well as sharing the story of Penny and her Christmas Jar and encouraging students to start a jar of their own with their families.  Christmas Jars are jars full of spare change that are donated to families at Christmas time.  Mr. Wright also met with fifth grade students to teach them more about writing and becoming authors.

1st Grade at Cornbelly's

Larsen 1st graders got the chance to visit Cornbelly's at Thanksgiving Point on a field trip.  Students were able to get lost in the maze, play in Corn Cobb Beach, ride on the Grain Train and so much more.  It was a fall adventure full of giggles and fun!  Thank you teachers and parents who helped make all the fun possible.

5th Grade Colonial Days

During Colonial Days, the 5th grade had the opportunity to create Horn Books in the classroom. Horn Books were used by Colonists to learn the alphabet and how to read. Each student got the chance to experience writing with a quill and ink--they practiced Colonial penmanship and used those skills to create their Horn Books. The highlight (pun intended) of Colonial Days was making candles with hot wax. The kids enjoyed seeing their creations completely set the next day. We all had a blast!

Intermountain Mental Health Services Awareness Night

We want to let families of Nebo School District know of the resources available in our community for those with mental health issues. The following is more information on the event.

This year’s Intermountain Mental Health Services Awareness Night will be held on Thursday, October 27, 2016, from 5:30 – 9 p.m. at the Brigham Young University Wilkinson Center. The evening will include an information fair featuring 40+ community mental health resources. Dr. Greg Hudnall of Hope4Utah will speak at 5:30 on suicide prevention. The keynote address will be given at 6:00 by Elder Gregory A. Schwitzer MD of the Quorum of the Seventy of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

People frequently turn to ecclesiastical leaders, physicians, school personnel, other professionals, and community leaders to help locate mental health and counseling services. The purpose of this event is to help community leaders know where to refer people who lack funding for mental health and counseling services.

2nd Grade Farm Field Day

The second grade was lucky enough to get to go to Farm Field Days in Lehi. They started the day off with lunch and play time at North Park here in Spanish Fork. After all the students got their wiggles out they traveled to Lehi. Once they got to Lehi and unloaded all the students they were able to watch three Border Collies herd some sheep. It was so cool! Then they learned about bees, 3D printing, the different breeds of milk cows and many other things. 2nd grade even got to see a mini horse and her baby, some pigs and a chicken. It was a lot of fun!

Reading Rewards Assembly

Larsen Elementary students sure started off the new school year by showing that they love to read!  We celebrated their successful daily reading goals with an exciting assembly.  Each teacher picked 2 students from their class that had read their daily minutes to participate in some fun games.  The games they got to play were Define Gravity, Catch A Cloud, Use Your Noodle and Stinky Feet.  Keep up the good reading habits!
