Author Jason Wright Visits Larsen

Submitted by teresa.beebe on

Larsen Elementary had a visit from Jason Wright, author of "The Christmas Jars", and "Penny's Christmas Jar Miracle". He spoke with students about becoming an author, as well as sharing the story of Penny and her Christmas Jar and encouraging students to start a jar of their own with their families.  Christmas Jars are jars full of spare change that are donated to families at Christmas time.  Mr. Wright also met with fifth grade students to teach them more about writing and becoming authors.

5th Grade Colonial Days

During Colonial Days, the 5th grade had the opportunity to create Horn Books in the classroom. Horn Books were used by Colonists to learn the alphabet and how to read. Each student got the chance to experience writing with a quill and ink--they practiced Colonial penmanship and used those skills to create their Horn Books. The highlight (pun intended) of Colonial Days was making candles with hot wax. The kids enjoyed seeing their creations completely set the next day. We all had a blast!
