5th Grade Mad Scientist

Submitted by teresa.beebe on
In 5th grade we ask our students " Who are scientists?" to kick off our science unit. We received all sorts of different answers.  Most of all, students chose to draw the stereotypical mad scientist. Students soon learned, and will continue learning over the next semesters, that we are all scientists. We can all be curious and we can all have a passion to discover.Image removed.

6th Grade Creates Greek Pottery

Submitted by teresa.beebe on
Around 700 BC, black figure pottery was popular for the Greeks. They used slip, which is a mixture of water and clay, to paint simple shapes onto the pot. The students designed black figure pots using an interactive website to replicate the process of making black figure pottery. Then, the students recreated their design with construction paper and special crayons as an exhibit in the hallway. The students enjoyed being able to see their creativity come to life. Image removed.

Larsen Elementary 5th and 6th grade choir was invited to perform at the ceremony celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Utah State Capitol building and unveiling of a new state seal.  The students performed the song "Utah, This is the Place."  The students were able to meet many people including Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes and Governor Gary Herbert.  After the ceremony,  students were given a tour of the Capitol building by Senetor Deidre Henderson and Representative Mike McKell.  It was an exciting day and a great opportunity for Larsen students.  Thank
