We want to congratulate Ms. Paula Carter on receiving the Crystal Apple Award for her exceptional work as a 2nd grade teacher here at Larsen Elementary. Ms. Carter has taught school for 20 years and has taught at Larsen Elementary, Salem Elementary and Challenger. The grades that she has taught are Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 4th. She is respected and loved by all of Larsen staff and by her students. Her two fellow 2nd grade teachers say that she gets more done by 8:00 A.M. than they do in a day. She is always thinking of ways to help others and make them feel appreciated. Larsen Elementary is lucky to have Ms. Carter here at our school! Thank you Ms. Carter for loving our students and helping them to be the best they can be. You are simply AMAZING!
UVU Professor Merrill Halling and two others from the his department came to Larsen Elementary and showed students just how fun science can be. They made fireworks in a jar, created elephant toothpaste and blew up some balloons using hydrogen and fire. It was so exciting to see how chemistry works. Thank you UVU for coming to our school!
Tanner Dance Company from Salt Lake City came and performed at Larsen Elementary. They danced and sang along with hand motions with the students. The Tanner Dance Program is an arts auxiliary of the College of Fine Arts at the University of Utah. The program helps students gain an appreciation of dance, music, literature, theatre, and the visual arts.
The 5th and 6th grade students participated in the Larsen Elementary Science Fair. There were so many great projects that the students came up with. Thanks to all the staff that helped put the science fair together. Thanks to all the students for all their hard work. The students that will be representing Larsen and moving on to the district level will be: Leilani Lemus, Hayley Peirce, Jaxson West, Joshua Slaugh, Addy Measom, Natalie Jewkes, Kaylee Knotts, Cadnice Nielsen, Mallory Diede, Sadie Werner, Morgan Nuttall, Brittan Robison, Amelia Slaugh, Raygen Grossland, Amber Grosland, Nathan Clegg, and Dallin Dennison. Mrs. Eckhardt's kindergarten classes celebrated Nursery Rhyme day. Each child dressed up like a character from a nursery rhyme, and shared their rhyme with the class. They also made retelling puppets for several nursery rhymes, and tasted curds and whey. Way to go Kindergarteners!
Mrs. Eckhardt's kindergarten classes showed their painting skills at a class mini museum during parent teacher conferences. Each student created three paintings for the museum. One painting inspired by the book "Don't Let the Pigeon Stay Up Late", one inspired by the big book "Mrs. Wish Washy", and one painting inspired by learning about Artist Georgia O'Keefe.A big things to Mr. Gillespie at MMHS for loaning us his portable art gallery to display our paintings!
Our own Mrs. Head received the PEAK Award last night. This award stands for Positive Energy and Kind employees. Mrs. Head is always so kind and friendly to everyone that comes to Larsen. She makes everyone feel loved and accepted. We love you Mrs. Head and appreciate all you do for Larsen. She was nominated by Principal Andersen. Below is the nomination that was written about her.
Kim Head, Secretary, Larsen Elementary
Nominated by: Garrett Andersen
“Kim always goes out of her way to make parents and students feel accepted in the front office of Larsen Elementary. She always has a smile. The love she has for her job beams through everything she does. Kim has gone the extra mile in helping several families get the needed documents and approval to enroll in school because she knows the importance of getting kids here and supporting the parents. Kim has helped take on a massive shift in our school culture. I know that we could not have made this shift without her help and understanding. I appreciate ALL that she does for Larsen.”

Our 3rd graders were lucky to have Claudia Jex come into their classes and show them how to make some snowman chalk art. Mrs. Jex is the Visual Art Specialist for the district. Larsen Elementary was given some grant money from the Beverly Taylor Sorensen Arts Learning Program to purchase some special art materials for each classroom. Thanks Mrs. Jex for helping us learn more about art!
